The Messianic Prophecy According To Micah

The prophet Micah was one of the prophets called as the Christmas prophet because Micah was writing the most important truth concerning the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is remarkable because hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus Christ, Micah already prophesied that He would be born in the small town called Bethlehem as we read in Micah 5:2. Whereas Isaiah whose contemporary was Micah, wrote something that is so important to take note concerning how the Messiah would come to this earth. In Isaiah 7:14 we are told that the Messiah would come to this world through the virgin born.

Micah 5:2 “But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been form of old, from everlasting.” How can Israel have a ruler come out from the small town like Bethlehem? The Jews might think that the King would come from heaven as the prophet had said. However there is nothing wrong with this understanding that the King will come from heaven because He is God. Therefore one may ask, if He comes from heaven how can He come from the earth? If He is the branch of the Lord how can it be the fruit of the ground? If He is Immanuel, God with us, how can He come from the woman, a virgin mother? If it is the child is given how can be a child is born? The answer is that God the Holy Spirit has been preparing his people for centuries to recognise the twofold nature of the Messiah the King namely He is God and Man. He comes from heaven and He comes from earth. He was sent by the father, He was born of the woman in Bethlehem. Thus we may conclude that Isaiah says the King will be born from the virgin, on the other hand Micah says He will be born in Bethlehem. This is not to say that the Messiah has the ultimate origin in Bethlehem. Thus Micah 5:2 is one of the most important passages with regard to the first coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
